Marketing Writer

Primary Function of Organization Unit: Marketing and Creative Services is the marketing and design arm for all central university marketing initiatives. This unit works with high level university offices to produce effective communications to support University goals and objectives. As a sub-unit of University Communications, the unit is responsible for working to empower the brand of NC State through superior design, photography, video, web and interactive media services in a for-fee/charge back environment. This will continue to be examined as University Communications completes its reorganization process.

Essential Job Duties: Part of NC State's marketing and content strategy team, the marketing copywriter will take a leadership and advocacy role in writing promotional copy and creating innovative platforms and concepts that achieve the strategic goals of the university. The copywriter will work closely with the content strategist, marketing manager, social media manager and other University Communications team members to develop, write and implement branded content, advertising copy, web copy, social media copy and a wide variety of project work across multiple channels. The copywriter will develop copy ideas from concept through produced materials, and be responsible for content research, writing and copy editing for both university-wide initiatives and internal client work.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Department Required Skills: Excellent copy is the heart of any good marketing communications initiative. Our copywriters are expected to have: * Great interviewing skills * Polished writing skills including knowledge of AP style and the ability to write solid headlines * Awareness of user experience issues * Marketing awareness * Ability to work with project managers, designers, web developers and others in a team environment to deliver multiple projects on deadline * Experience in Basecamp and the Mac environment are a plus

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, technical communications or marketing. * At least 3-5 years of work experience developing, writing and managing marketing content for large organizations. * Higher education experience preferred.
