DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES
Duties: The Director of Employee Engagement and HR will report to the Executive Director of Administration and be responsible for implementation and development of programs to improve morale, increase operating efficiencies while providing managers guidance on strategic employment initiatives and other HR related matters. The position will work collaboratively with senior management on strategic initiatives and implement a plan to introduce a structured staff management model to align with SDM strategic goals.
The Director will lead Employee Engagement at SDM and work with managers to develop performance metrics in line with the SDM business model. Collaborate with managers and develop a detailed, time-bound goal oriented action plan designed to reach maximum performance efficiency. Develop model to work in conjunction with performance plan and appraisal cycle. The will also lead Training for staff and managers, as well as implement and coordinate training and development programs for staff and managers to improve performance and enhance knowledge. Keep managers abreast of changes in university policy and employment laws.
The Director will also work in partnership with central Human Resources and Learning and Education to provide a wide array of services for SDM, including but not limited to, performance management, conflict resolution, organizational restructuring, and staff leaves. The Director must have a thorough understanding of the strategic direction of the SDM and of state and federal laws in employment, benefits, and unemployment and FLSA compensation. He/she will participate in the Recruitment and Compensation process for all new hires at SDM, as well as consult with managers to make recommendations to enhance and maintain positive employee relations and high productivity. Training: Develop, implement and coordinate training and development programs for staff and managers to improve performance and enhance knowledge. Keep managers abreast of changes in university policy and employment laws.
He/she will serve as an HR Generalist at SDM, and will administer all staff relations programs including but limited to benefits administration, staff grievance procedure, performance appraisal and introductory review programs, progressive disciplinary processes, Workplace Issue Resolution Program, and position discontinuation and staff transition programs, onboarding and offboarding. He/she will also be responsible for leading special projects, including, but not limited to such areas as performance management, policy development, conflict management and other areas.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree and seven to ten years related and varied experience in the human resources field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience at Penn strongly preferred as well as knowledge of university policies related to human resources. General understanding of academic issues, programs and organizations preferred. Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop and implement a wide range of human resources programs independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated ability to management special projects, work independently, perform independent analysis and to make decisions independently. Knowledge of federal, state and local employment, labor and wage laws required Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
