Duties: Coordinates all activities required by the University and sponsor calendars, such as grant deadlines, supports all activities related to grants management within the department including the pre-award and post-award process. Assists department investigators in processing proposals via PennERA, including but not limited to budget support, daily management and administration of the Post-Award process, progress reports, problem recognition, analysis and resolution during all phases of the grant cycle. Responsible for Pre Reviewing and Post reviewing all effort reports.

Responsible for overseeing all grant and contract pre-award and post-award functions within the Department of Animal Biology, work in conjunction with the Financial Coordinator in the daily management and administration of all grants and contracts (total of 10.4 M). Exercise resource stewardship to ensure compliance with related policies and procedures for both standard university transactions along with NIH transactions. Assist Financial Coordinator to prepare, analyze monthly reconciliation reports for Principal Investigators, monitor and communicate spending patterns and account surpluses/deficits and process subcontracts and sub-award requests.

Maintain the Departments operating budget along with 4 unrestricted teaching budgets. These tasks include the development and monitoring of all budgets into the university's Hyperion Planning system, preparation of fiscal projections, monitor on-line purchasing and monthly PROCARD activity, screen and approve all expenditures, review and verify all activity for accuracy and compliance, perform budget reallocations, as needed, prepare and process journal entries, deposits and gift transmittals. Prepare regular financial reports including forecasts and strategic planning for the chairman of the department. Communicate policies and procedures to the faculty and staff. Manage the Administration and Financial transactions for the School of Veterinary Medicine's Center for Animal Transgenesis and Germ Cell Research located at both the main campus and New Bolton Center. Responsibilities include the management of the New Bolton Center personnel along with the Animal Barrier Service Center Facility.

Qualifications: BA/BS Degree and 5 to 7 years of experience in accounting with a minimum completion of basic accounting course or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Appropriate accounting and training in University's training in University's Ben Financials and Business Object experience preferred; strong verbal and written communication skills required. Strong knowledge of and demonstrated competency with Information systems, including most applications in Microsoft Suite, word processing, spreadsheets, the Internet and business applications such as the University Research Administration and Accounting systems. A strong knowledge of and demonstrated competency with compliance issues related to the management of both federal and non federal sponsored research. Must be initiative and self starter capable of working with a diverse constituency, capable of being flexible and energetic while meeting strict deadlines.
