The University of Virginia seeks applicants for the position of Assistant Dean of Students. The position is a full-time, twelve month University Managerial and Professional Staff position with benefits. The Assistant Dean engages with, and provides follow-up services to students, faculty, and various stakeholders who contact the Office of the Dean of Students in Peabody Hall. The Assistant Dean also serves in the Dean-on-Call rotation responding to student issues and emergencies during business hours, as well as nights and weekends. In addition, the Assistant Dean will provide significant oversight and management of the incident tracking system, as well as training for new users in the Division of Student Affairs. In collaboration with the Assistant Vice President for Clery Compliance, the Assistant Dean will also serve as Deputy Clery Coordinator assisting with Clery compliance within Student Affairs. This position reports to an Associate Dean of Students.
Candidates for the position must have a Master's degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration, or other equivalent degree, with a minimum of two years of relevant post-Master's experience. Strong preference will be given to applicants with 3 - 5 years of relevant post-Master's experience. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated mastery of managing student conduct issues, providing outstanding student advising and support, and excelling in a fast-paced work environment with multiple competing priorities. A demonstrated understanding of legal issues in higher education, due process, and criminal statutes is preferred. The successful candidate will also have exceptional organizational and communication skills, as well as demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. In the event of an emergency and/or related institutional closure, the position may be designated by a supervisor to perform responsibilities associated with student support and continuity of University operations.
