Dean for the Division of Business & Computer Science
Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC), a four-year degree granting institution of the University System of Georgia, is accepting applications for the position of Dean/Assistant/Associate Professor of Business and Computer Science. The College currently serves approximately 2800 commuting students on its beautifully landscaped campus which is located 10 minutes south of downtown Atlanta and 15 minutes north of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
The Dean/Assistant/Associate Professor of Business and Computer Science reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for teaching select courses as well as performing all duties associated with the leadership and operational management of the Division. The Dean is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of faculty and is responsible for ensuring the maintenance of excellence and quality in the division's academic programs and services. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: fiscal and personnel management; supervision and evaluation of academic support staff; evaluation of the Division's academic programs; responds to and mediates the Division's student, faculty, and/or staff grievances and complaints; and any other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Division has less than 10 full-time faculty and the qualified candidate must demonstrate the ability to grow and develop competitive and accredited Bachelor Degree programs in Business and Computer Science. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the ability to enhance and develop the highest enrolled program at the College, as well as have a vision for efficient and effective growth.
The successful candidate must have a Doctorate in Business or a related field. The preferred candidate should have three years supervisory and administrative experience and the demonstrated ability to manage budgets and fiscal affairs. The successful candidate must demonstrate a record of successful leadership skills in an academic setting and demonstrate successful experience and leadership in current emerging educational technologies applied to classroom instruction. The successful candidate should: have strong oral, listening, and written communication skills; be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access; be able to use Banner, Degree Works, and Brightspace in an academic setting; be able to work cooperatively and effectively with others; be accountable for inventory/property management; have budget dexterity and resourcefulness in managing budgets and resource allocations in a tuition-dependent institution with a centralized budget model; have a demonstrated ability to support effective teaching informed by scholarly activities; have a demonstrated record of leadership to support faculty research and professional development; provide evidence of trustworthy and inspirational leadership built on integrity, courage and impartiality; have good listening skills and the ability to navigate and understand the culture of the College and the Division of Business and Computer Science, to nurture a collaborative workplace and to build consensus for action; have a record of, and/or demonstrate a strong interest in, collaborating the public and private business sectors on the local, regional, national, and international levels; knowledge of current and emerging issues in higher education in general and in business education in particular; experience leading change in an operationally complex environment, with the vision and ability to advocate and lead for the betterment of the Division of Business and Computer Science, the College itself and all future integrations of business education programs across the College; strategic planning; experience with the development of online programs for new markets and with the effective use of technology for teaching and learning; understanding of technology and how to leverage it for effective and consistent operations across the Campus; experience working with non-traditional aged students and working professionals; use of data to understand issues and inform decisions related to retention, graduation, assessment and learning outcomes, especially for working professionals; demonstrated capacity to foster conversations and collaborations required to build and to be part of a dynamic college-wide leadership team; effective communication skills and the ability to build relationships.
