The Manager of Digital Learning Centers (formerly called "Computer Labs") is an advocate for student success with the digital tools provided by UMass Lowell, responsible for executing UMass Lowell IT's vision for a flexible, open and robust environment for students to achieve their academic goals. The Manager of Digital Learning Centers is responsible for the overall operation of Digital Learning Centers (DLCs) throughout the campus, as well as supervising and coordinating the activities of the campus' Digital Learning Center Technicians.

Under the direction of the Director of Platforms & Systems Engineering, the Digital Learning Center Manager is tasked with continuously re-envisioning the university's drop-in and specialized use computer facilities, as well as improving student and faculty satisfaction with Digital Learning Centers around campus.

The Manager of Digital Learning Centers holds the dual role of manager and engineer; he/she will be responsible for the overall design and operation of the DLCs themselves and the team they manage. He/she is the final point of internal escalation and is responsible for ensuring satisfaction for end users and customers, and also for coordinating support calls with other areas of IT and the university and ensuring all needs of the campus are met. The Manager must be balanced technically and administratively, comfortable both configuring a new Digital Learning Center, testing and certifying software configurations, managing a team and developing a performance plan for staff.

The Manager of Digital Learning Centers will routinely work with UMass Lowell's Disability Services office to ensure that Digital Learning Centers are accessible to all students and faculty to the best abilities of the state of the technology.

The Manager of Digital Learning Centers is the University's key staff position responsible for the smooth operation, easy accessibility, and academic effectiveness of Digital Learning Centers and is instrumental in helping students achieve their academic goals.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
-Bachelor's degree required
-A passion for the Information Technology industry and helping students and faculty succeed
-A strong understanding of enterprise fleet management and deployment technologies
-Requires 5 or more years of experience in a large Information Technology environment with progressively increasing experience
-Valid state-issued driver's license
-The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
-Requires extraordinary customer service skills and the desire and ability to go "above-and-beyond" on any given issue to ensure customer success
-Superior written and oral communication skills; the ability to clearly and articulately explain technical concepts to non-technical users
-Must be able to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse teams of technical and non-technical team members
-Strong problem solving and research skills
-Must be able to encounter new problems and devise solutions without guidance or support
-Requires proficiency with installing, configuring and operating Microsoft Windows and Mac OS
-Requires previous experience with virtual desktops or other client/server application delivery technologies
-Thorough understanding of Local Area Networks and TCP/IP protocols
-Proficiency with systems "fleet management" including patching, large-scale software rollouts and version controls.
-A critical eye and excellent analytical skills
-Strong sense of professionalism and confidentiality

Other Considerations:
-A preference will be given to candidates possessing desktop-focused IT certifications such as, MCITP:DA, MCITP:EDST, MCDST, ACMT, A+, Security+ or MCSE:DI
-Preference given to candidates with previous Higher Education experience
-Experience with Linux desktops is preferred
-Bachelor's degree preferred in the areas of MIS, IT, Management, Computer Science or Engineering
-Master's degree strongly preferred
-Experience with VMware View is preferred
