The next ten years provide an unparalleled opportunity for advancement professionals at one of the nation's premier national research universities, the University of Virginia. Coinciding with a bicentennial celebration to mark the founding of the University by Thomas Jefferson, UVA will soon embark on an ambitious multi-billion dollar campaign for its third century, beginning with a public launch in 2019 and concluding in 2026.
The Director of Development for Global Initiatives will be will be responsible developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy for global initiatives. As part of this strategy, he/she will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects interested in expanding the University's global opportunities. The Director will also help to establish and manage a Global Advisory Board. He/she will develop and assist in global activities fundraising programs, events, and initiatives at the University and around the world. This position will report to the Assistant Vice President for Development and the Vice Provost for Global Affairs.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individuals capable of making gifts of $100K and higher and documented experience of working with seven-figure donors. He/she will have success working with university leadership, or equivalent, to identify and manage prospective donor pools. The ideal candidate will have a high degree of personal initiative and an ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. He/she will have strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and have the ability to develop relationships of trust and respect with faculty, volunteers, donors and colleagues. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, respectful and collaborative with an ability to accept diverse world views, values, politics and lifestyles exhibited by prospective donors. The position requires both domestic and international travel 25 percent of the time.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to create, implement, and manage development strategies, including donor cultivation, solicitation, direct marketing, and stewardship.
Ability to develop relationships of trust and respect with faculty, volunteers, donors and colleagues.
High level of personal and professional integrity.
High degree of personal initiative and an ability to work effectively with little supervision.
Ability to accept diverse world view, value, politics and lifestyles exhibited by prospective donors and colleagues.
An ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment.
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Must be willing to participate in 25% domestic and international travel as needed to support fundraising goals.
