Job Description
University of South Carolina/Institute for Families in Society -MPR Division is seeking a GIS Analyst. Position will use Geographic Information System (GIS) software, tools and methods to generate map products and conduct routine spatial analyses based on predefined procedures in a fast paced, applied research environment. Position will perform address standardization and processing, geocoding, routine data maintenance, and other data management tasks. Position will be responsible for process documentation and maintenance of metadata. Staff will be a member of a GIS unit using latest ESRI software (ArcGIS Desktop, Server, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online) and ancillary tools (Excel, Access, Internet-based data sources, SQL Server). This position is established in support of expanded research activities and projects. Salary commensurate with qualifications.


Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in geography, public health, earth sciences, life sciences, engineering, or related field and 3 years related GIS experience, or an associate's degree in geography or related field and 5 years related GIS Experience.
Working knowledge and experience with ArcGIS Desktop 10.4, address processing, and geocoding. Demonstrable expertise in cartographic design and production. Ability to operate GlS equipment (e.g. plotter). Proven ability to conceptualize and complete complex projects with thorough documentation and demonstration of applied logic. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, project leader, and co-workers both orally and in writing. Ability to work in a team environment as well as a goal-oriented individual who functions with the highest level of integrity and professionalism.


Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of public health concepts and methods. Experience working with health-related datasets (Medicaid/Medicare, hospitalization data, cancer data, etc.), calculating prevalence or incidence rates, and mapping health data. Experience working with large is desirable. Web GIS skills and experience are a plus.
