Posting Summary:
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of Virginia seeks multiple highly motivated computation professionals to join our dynamic research team as Research Specialist at the Center for Applied Biomechanics.

The successful candidate(s) will assume an active role in one or more of a variety of research projects related to injury and musculoskeletal biomechanics spanning automotive, military, sports, and orthopaedic applications that require combinations of state-of-the-art computational and experimental approaches. The successful candidate(s) will work both in teams and on their own to develop, utilize, and evaluate advanced finite element (FE) models of the human body for injury prediction using already-collected, or by collecting new, experimental data on human subjects or surrogates. Duties will include academic publishing in peer-reviewed conferences and journals, graduate student mentorship, and collaboration with academic, industrial, and government research partners.

General qualifications include: MS in mechanical, biomedical engineering, or closely related discipline, excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well as a member of a team.

The qualified candidate(s) will have at least three years of experience with the following: Demonstrated expertise in FE model use and development, particularly with the LS-Dyna solver, experience with FE human body models for injury analysis, experience in design of experiment (DOE) for parametric analysis and response surface generation, multi-parameter optimization, and related numerical analysis techniques, experience developing FE meshes using HyperMesh or similar software packages, and proficiency in scientific programming languages (Matlab, Python, etc).

Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated knowledge or background in biomechanics, vehicle crashworthiness, occupant protection, multi-body dynamics, and automobile safety.
