Job Description
Two postdoctoral positions available. Will conduct research and other research-related activities under the direction of the PI (Dr. Petkov). Laboratory experiments will be conducted on a daily basis. Other laboratory-related duties will include, but, are not limited to: maintaining transgenic mouse colonies, preparing animal use protocols, prepare progress reports related to research, setting up and managing new equipment, participation in developing of new methodologies. Collection and analysis of preliminary data for grant proposals. Assisting the PI (Dr. Petkov) with grant submissions.
The candidate will be expected to publish at least 1-2 first-authored peer reviewed papers per year in order to be considered for re-appointment.
This position requires occasional work on evenings and weekends.


Minimum Qualifications
PhD degree in one of the following areas: physiology, pharmacology, electrophysiology, cell and molecular biology, biophysics, or related discipline with at least 6 peer-reviewed research articles. The candidate should be first/leading author on at least 50% (3+) of these 6+peer-reviewed research articles


Preferred Qualifications
Applicants should be very skillful in setting up, care and use of laboratory equipment and have ability to develop new and improved methodology. Some but not all equipment needed to perform the dutiesinclude: Axopatch 200B Amplifier, Digidata 1322A, Digidata 1440A, MP-285(ROE) Micro Manipulator, TDS1002 Oscilloscope, 900CT Tunable Active Filter, D-612T Filtered DC Power Supply, Axiovert 40CFL Microscope (fluorescence), Microscope Nikon Eclipse TS100, Vista Vision Microscope, Stemi 2000-C Microscope, PP-830 Puller, MF-830 Micro Forge, 5004 Micro-Osmette Automatic Osmometer, Analog Dry Heat Block, Centrifuge GLXY Minis(93000-196), SevenEasy pH, Horizontal Gel Electrophoresis Box (27372-200), Ultrasonic wave cleaner(PUC), VMS-C7 Mixer/Hot Plate, XS64 Analytical Balance, MASTERCYCLER, MyoMed custom-built 8-channel 8-tissue bath system with electrical filed stimulation option, and other equipment not listed here.
Must have strong knowledge of database management and statistical skills. Must have a good background in urinary bladder smooth muscle function and regulation. Team-player spirit and a dedicated attitude toward scientific progress are an absolute must. Applicants should be very skillful in setting up, care and use of laboratory equipment and have ability to develop new and improved methodology. Good communication and organizational skills, and excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written) are essential. Must also have knowledge of hazards of laboratory activities and related safety practices, skill in setting up, care and use of laboratory equipment, and ability to develop and assist with development of new and improved methodology.
