Job Description
The Research Associate, with internal title of Data Analyst, will contribute to data management and analysis on evaluation, research, and assessment projects awarded to the Office of Program Evaluation in the College of Education. This position will perform statistical programming to efficiently produce timely and accurate reports for a variety of stakeholders. In addition, this position will provide professional support to research team members on data management and analysis.

This is a temporary, research grant-funded position with full benefits. The position may be extended beyond the grant period if funds are available. This position is established in support of expanded research activities.


Contributes to research teams on the design and development of methods used to evaluate programs, conduct research studies, and/or support assessment projects. Participates in meetings of research teams and clients and consults with project faculty.

Develops data collection systems to efficiently collect and manage project data. This includes building databases from data provided by external sources as well developing online data collection systems for collection of primary data.

Conducts data management and analysis of educational data. This includes both descriptive and inferential data analysis of educational outcome data (e.g. student achievement data), as well as psychometric analysis of survey and assessment data.

Performs advanced statistical programming of educational data. This includes writing customized programs and macros for data analysis as well as creating displays for data visualization.

Prepares reports for a variety of audiences. This includes technical and evaluation reports for clients and funders, conference papers and journal articles for academic audiences, and research briefs for non-technical audiences. Also reviews and edits reports written by others.

Advises graduate students and research staff members on data management and data analysis.

Contributes to instrument development including surveys, rubrics, and assessments

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a master's degree with training in quantitative data analysis methods. Requires at least three years of professional experience in data management and analysis. Experience with Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel, is also required.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with data collection and database management is preferred. Preference for statistical programming experience in SAS, R, and/or SPSS. Training and experience in advanced quantitative methods, including multilevel modeling and structural equation modeling, is preferred. Background in assessment and psychometrics is also preferred. Preference for experience designing and/or working with web-based data collection systems. Experience creating user-friendly graphic displays and visual reports is preferred.
