Summary of Duties:
The successful candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology to assist in the production of reagents for genome editing using state-of-the-art CRISPR/Cas9 in multiple species. In addition, this position will have responsibility for research development and support activities including designing approaches for the research projects and developing methodology. The ideal candidate will be: 1) experienced with a wide range of molecular biology techniques; 2) knowledgeable in the construction of plasmid vectors; 3) able to troubleshoot and optimize experimental design; 4) an excellent communicator with the ability to manage multiple projects.
Responsibilities will include, among others, developing CRISPR/Cas9 reagents including DNA vectors through cutting-edge molecular cloning; preparing high quality plasmid DNA; synthesizing RNA in vitro; ensuring quality control of materials including using assays in mammalian cells; analyzing genomic DNA for mutations; optimizing methods to achieve project goals; critically analyzing results and modifying techniques when necessary; and assisting with the collection, analysis and interpretation of research data. Performs laboratory research including the design of research approaches. Collect, analyze and interpret research data. Ensure quality control, make improvement to techniques and interpretation. Manage and maintain daily laboratory operations. Conducts general laboratory maintenance and routine care of scientific instrumentation; orders supplies, keeps inventory records and maintains a safe working environment.
The successful candidate will work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.
