Per the New York State Department of Civil Service, a Maintenance Helper performs a variety of relatively unskilled maintenance, repair and related activities assisting skilled and semiskilled trade positions in one or a combination of crafts functioning as a general handyman in an assigned location.
For the purposes of this temporary 14 week position the selected candidates will be assigned the duty of painting Alfred State College dormitory facilities for 29 hours per week. One (1) week of vacation will be authorized due to operational needs of the department relative to the painting work load schedule during this temporary assignment.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools and motorized equipment.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor.
There are no education or experience requirements for this class. Applicants must be physically able to perform moderate to heavy physical labor. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State Driver's License appropriate for the type of vehicle operated.
