Washington College in Chestertown, MD is seeking qualified applicants for the Director of the Quantitative Skills Center. This position trains and supervises tutors for mathematics courses and other courses requiring quantitative skills and works with faculty to develop workshops and other programs to support students enrolled in math and science courses. The Director also teaches two or three courses per semester in the Mathematics Department and/or quantitative courses in another appropriate department or program. The Director reports to the Associate Provost for Academic Services and works closely with faculty and other Academic Resources Directors. This is a ten-month staff position.

Responsibilities:

  1. Recruit, train, and supervise student tutors for one-on-one and small group tutoring in math and quantitative skills.
  2. Work with faculty to develop materials and offer workshops for students to review fundamental mathematics or quantitative skills for courses such as physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, computer science, economics, and business and to review or learn technology and software pertaining to mathematics and quantitative skills.
  3. Manage tutor schedules, payroll and budget for the Quantitative Skills Center. Collect, analyze, and report outcomes of assessment data.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or closely related field required, master’s degree preferred.

Experience teaching mathematics or a related subject in a school, college or university, experience training and supervising student tutors preferred.

Experience with academic technology and software pertaining to mathematics and related courses.

Self-motivated and able to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty and other academic resources staff.
