Director of Athletics Special Events Sales and Operations

Primary Function of Organization Unit: The mission of the NC State University Department of Athletics is to prepare student-athletes to compete at the highest level and to inspire them to be leaders now and for the future by providing the best environment to achieve their athletic, academic, and personal aspirations as well as providing support for the professional development of our coaches and staff, all within the role of the greater institutional relationships to the University.
Essential Job Duties: NC State Athletics seeks a high-energy and detail-oriented person who thrives in a team environment to lead its special event sales, planning and operations. This position reports directly to the Associate Athletics Director for Facilities and Operations and partners with the Assistant Athletics Director for Campus Facilities, the Assistant Athletics Director for Operations, university event planners, and third party event planners. The Director of Athletics Special Events Sales & Operations will be responsible for: - Marketing, sales, planning and execution of all NC State athletics special events, including, but not limited to NC State Athletic Hall of Fame, Wolfies Awards, Welcome Back Pack, Football Signing Day Celebration, concerts, comedy shows, and more. - Point of contact for all NC State University special events held in athletic venues, including convocation, commencement, lecture series, student events, and more. - Point of contact for all NC State Athletics corporate partner events in coordination with Wolfpack Sports Properties. - Creatively organize sales strategy campaigns to secure external events, including but not limited to university events, student events and third party events at all athletics facilities; generate outside leads and respond to leads within the athletics department and university. - Achieving agreed upon annual revenue goals; evaluating and recommending opportunities for new special event revenue streams. - Managing event budgets ranging from a few thousand dollars to several hundred thousand dollars; handling billing for all event-related expenses. - Planning collaboratively with team to create an annual calendar of special events. - Preparing pre- and post-event analysis, and assess opportunities and make recommendations for improving service to internal and external constituencies. - Creating detailed event plans; drafting and distributing event briefing memos. - Securing and overseeing event staffing, ranging from a few staff for smaller events to several hundred staff for concerts and large special events. - Developing and maintaining relationships with third party vendors. - Creating and implementing facilities rental and event agreements. - Preparing year-end events reports, providing analysis and recommendations for future actions and improvements. - Assisting with athletics game day VIP hospitality needs, as assigned.
Department Required Skills: - Minimum of one year of event sales, planning, operations, hospitality or equivalent experience. - Self-motivated and driven to achieve individual and team goals. - Possess a high energy level, exude a positive attitude, and deliver polished presentations. - Demonstrated experience supervising staff and/or leading a team. - Strong planning and organizational skills, relentless attention to detail, and experience in managing multidimensional events. - Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with a team. - Effective problem solving and decision making skills, especially in high pressure situations. - Excellent computer and multimedia skills. - Ability to work nonstandard hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: - Master's degree - At least 5-10 years of event sales, planning, operations, hospitality or equivalent experience.
