Degree and Area of Specialization: Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences or related field with relevant work experience in information systems management and computer programming is required. A background in biological sciences is preferred.



Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience: One year of systems administration experience is preferred. At least 2 years of relevant work experience with Windows Server, Linux, Mac OS/X, and VM Ware is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory. Knowledge of open-source applications (e.g. R and GDAL), and cloud-based services (e.g. AWS, Digital Ocean, Google Cloud Platform) would be beneficial. Salary will be commensurate with experience.



Position Summary: This position will perform a combination of technical planning and consultation, and installation and organization, of computing systems that support the Departments of Entomology, Forest and Wildlife Ecology and Plant Pathology. This group is comprised of over 400 faculty, academic staff, lecturers, research associates and scholars serving 300 graduate and undergraduate students in Russell Labs. The incumbent will provide advice and solutions to faculty, instructional staff and researchers utilizing computer-based technologies in support of their research and instructional activities. The consultant works to promote increased understanding of and support for the use of technologies by providing initial assistance, develops technical communications and monitors emerging technologies in teaching, research and outreach.
