Degree and Area of Specialization: No Degree required.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience: Two or more years of banquet catering or restaurant management experience required.
Three or more years of professional wedding planning and/or coordination experience preferred.
Food preparation and presentation skills.
Proven experience training, coaching and developing staff.
Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills as well as attention to details required.
License or certificate: Must have an Owner/Operator Bartender and ServeSafe Certification or be able to obtain within six
months of hire.
Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Catering Food Service Manager, this position provides management of catering services, including the delivery of high quality breakfasts, luncheons, banquets, dinners and wedding receptions and bar service for Memorial Union Catering and off premise events including Red Gym, and assisting at Union South. Receptions range from 10 to 1500 guests, with 2 grand ballrooms and multiple event spaces, with up to 400 patrons for a single banquet. Provide supervision of permanent staff and over 80 part-time staff. Assist to develop food, wage and material costs for a budget of approximately $2.5-3 million.
Additional Information: Physical Requirements: Frequent lifting of objects weighing approximately 50 pounds; push and pull carts and hot boxes, 100 pounds empty and upto 1000 pounds full. Ability to load and unload trucks for catered events and lift up to 50 pounds about 3' high. The ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Extended day hours may be necessary because of operational needs, such as 16 hours a shift.
Hours will vary depending on operational needs. High volume business generally increases April through December.
