Exceptional candidates at the rank of professor may be eligible for the Swearingen Chair of Education. The goal of this Professorship is to recognize an individual's teaching, research, and public service accomplishments; and to provide significant resources for planned future pursuits that are fully aligned with the vision and core values of the College.

The Ph.D. in Language and Literacy includes coursework in socio-cultural and critical approaches to literacy theory and practice. We seek colleagues whose expertise and research is devoted to understanding and improving literacy instruction in congruence with our program. The University of South Carolina has a strong commitment to the principles of diversity and is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer. Minorities, women, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply. The University embraces family-friendly policies that provide a work environment and an academic culture supportive of faculty members and their families.
