The Health and Wellness unit of the Division of Student Affairs is committed to a holistic wellness model that enhances the overall educational student experience. Health and Wellness unit strives to provide programs, services and atmosphere that focus on the environmental, intellectual, social, occupational, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being of students. The Health and Wellness unit consists of Student Conduct, Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Anti-Violence Initiatives (AVI), Alcohol and Other Drug Education Programs (ADEP), Recreation and Wellness, Collegiate Recovery Community, and Religious and Spiritual Life.
The Health and Wellness unit of the Division of Student Affairs seeks applications for a Health & Wellness Program Assistant to work closely with and provide administrative support to the Associate Dean of Students and the Assistant Directors of Anti-Violence Initiatives (AVI) and Alcohol and other Drug Education (ADEP) offices. The successful candidate will also perform professional functions using established department and College policies, procedures and guidelines.
Responsibilities for this position include supporting the planning and execution of Health and Wellness, ADEP, AVI and Religious & Spiritual Life strategic initiatives, assist in the implementation of programs and activities, including but not limited to: TIPS trainings, Student Health 101, Health Promotions, Financial Health, Resiliency, Balance, Living by the Code and Diversity, facilitating and supporting compliance initiatives, writing/documentation, review and interpret applicable principles, federal and/or state laws and regulations, including the Biennial Review and Report and the DOE-Title IX mandates. The Program Assistant will hire, train, schedule and supervise student office assistants with particular attention to confidentiality and professionalism, learn and utilize the budget system, manage budgets and maintain budgetary files, maintain data related to peer education programs, ADEP and AVI services and clients, Peer Institute and other activities as identified by the Associate Dean of Students and Assistant Directors of AVI and ADEP.
Qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's degree. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year for year basis.
One year (1) of experience in provision of administrative, program and project support.
Well-developed technological skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and web applications.
Experience with or evidence of ability to gain proficiency in related software programs (Symplicity, EMS) and social media technology, including twitter account management.
Highly developed communication skills, including excellent and accurate writing, editing and proofreading skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize, multi-task and adhere to institutional and department deadlines.
Ability to apply sound judgment in identifying emergent or critical issues of attention of supervisor; ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and highly developed skills in independent problem-solving.
Preferred qualifications include:
Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Education, Social Work, Education, or related field.
Two (2) or more years of experience in provision of administrative, program and project support
Experience in a higher education environment.

This position is a New Jersey Civil Service position with the state title Program Assistant (A). It is included for membership in the Communication Workers of America (CWA) bargaining unit. The starting salary for this position is range 16, step 1, $41,230.15. Permanent appointment to this position is contingent upon the successful completion of a 4-month probationary period to access the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Salary for an internal candidate will be determined in accordance with Civil Service rules.
Under a new residency bill signed into law by Governor Chris Christie, any individual hired on, or after September 1, 2011, will be required to establish a principal residence in New Jersey unless their position is exempt.
