Reporting to the Provost, the Q Center Director exercises overall responsibility for achieving the goals of Mary Baldwin University’s Quality Enhancement Plan—“Numbers Count, Quantitative Reasoning: Preparing Leaders for Our Changing World.”

Developed as part of MBU’s reaffirmation of accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, MBU’s Quality Enhancement Plan seeks to ensure that undergraduates demonstrate an understanding of, and an ability to apply, quantitative reasoning and that such understanding and ability are supported by an institutional climate and culture that promote quantitative reasoning.

The Director has overall responsibility for achieving the following goals:

  1. Developing the capacity of quantitative reasoning across the undergraduate curriculum, as evidenced by MBU’s graduates’ ability to demonstrate competence in quantitative reasoning and literacy; and by demonstrating habits of mind and confidence in interpreting and communicating meaning from quantitative data.
  2. Creating an institutional climate and culture that promote quantitative reasoning, as evidenced by the Q Center as a resource for the entire University; and by developing Q-centered media environment through University communications that emphasizes use of informational graphics and data-based visuals.

To achieve these goals, the Q Center Director will collaborate with faculty, deans, and other areas of the University to integrate quantitative reasoning across the undergraduate curriculum, to assess the effectiveness of such integration, and to create and assess an institutional climate that promotes quantitative reasoning across the University.

The Director will develop with faculty a rubric for approving quantitative courses and will facilitate courses being submitted and approved by appropriate bodies.

The Director will facilitate the development of the QU modules by providing faculty with development opportunities.

The Director will work with faculty to develop an understanding of Q skills that may be appropriately applied to undergraduate majors and programs across the University.
