The Openproof project at the Center for the Study of Language and Information is looking to hire a full-stack web developer. This position is for an initial term of one-year, and will be renewable thereafter.
The Openproof project develops educational software for teaching logic at the undergraduate level. Our award-winning courseware include: Language, Proof and Logic, Tarski's World and Hyperproof. We seek to hire a full-stack web-developer with knowledge of: - server-side technologies including Java and MySQL,- client-side technologies such as HTML, CSS and Javascript, including popular libraries like jQuery,

In cases where the web project was developed as part of a team, the application should make clear the nature and extent of the applicant's contribution to the site.
Execute all programming tasks, including programming, analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, modifying, and maintaining computer programs. Work on systems of moderate size and complexity or segments of larger systems.
The holder of this position will be the lead developer responsible for transitioning our existing product base to a web-service based architecture, with a primary focus on developing RESTful web services based on JAX-RS technology. Attention to ease-of-use issues are of particular importance to our audience.
  • Conceptualize design, implement, and develop solutions for complex system/programs independently.
  • Work with a variety of users to gain information, and develop intra-system tradeoffs between different users, as necessary; interact with a diverse client base and outside vendor contacts.
  • Document system builds and application configurations; maintain and update documentation as needed.
  • Provide technical analysis, design, development, conversion, and implementation work.
  • Work as a project leader, as needed, for projects of moderate complexity.
  • Serve as a technical resource for applications.
  • Compare, evaluate, and implement new features and technologies, and integrate them into the computing environment.
  • Follow team software development methodology.
  • Mentor lower level software developers.* - Other duties may also be assigned, not all unique aspects of the job are covered by this job description.
    Education & Experience:
    Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Expertise in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications.
  • Proficiency with application design and data modeling.
  • Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
  • Ability to lead activities on structured team development projects.
  • Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
  • Knowledge of application domain.
  • We use a variety of additional technologies, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), the Tomcat web application container, the Eclipse development environment, the Subversion version control system and Jenkins for continuous integration. Experience with any of these technologies would be viewed favorably but is not required.
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand.
