I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

Facilities, a department in Division of Operation's Facilities and Campus Development under the Executive Vice President and Treasurer's portfolio, manages and maintains GW's property and grounds on all three of GW's campuses. This includes housekeeping, routine and emergency maintenance, moving services, pest control, project management, life safety upkeep, HVAC repairs, grounds maintenance, and recycling/waste management. Our maintenance team includes electricians, carpenters, painters, HVAC technicians, locksmiths, plumbers, and groundskeepers.

The Groundsperson will perform duties that require working independently and with groups. The Groundsperson reports to the Grounds Supervisor. This position is Designated On-Site as an position that is required to physically report to work or remain at work during an emergency or adjustment to the university's operating status. This position is a part of the Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ (SEIU).This schedule works with the grounds team from 6:00 am until 3:00 pm.

The core responsibilities are to complete the following:

-Assist with all grounds related work; planting, weeding, mulching, pruning, mowing or whatever landscape activity is seasonally appropriate and to ensure that the campus is kept tidy and clean from any sources of litter or trash.

-Utilize appropriate garden tools and equipment such as rakes, clippers, mowers, mechanical sweepers, etc., to rake, clean grounds, parking lots, and garages on campus, plant, transplant, trim and water vegetation, mow lawns, and shovel and remove snow.

-Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma/GED, or equivalent combination of training and experience, is necessary. Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to physically perform the job duties; including walking, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of equipment.

Valid Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and work requests.

Have relevant experience performing general or landscape labor work.

Ability to be a self-starter and work in a team environment.

Possess integrity and excellent customer service skills and adheres to policies and processes.
