The University of Virginia Health System Development Office seeks an Assistant Director of Development on the Healthcare Philanthropy team, which works to foster giving from patients and families who are grateful for the care they received at UVA Health System. For our patients and families, philanthropy has deep meaning and healing power. Our ideal candidate will possess the exceptional interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence necessary to work with those who have experienced illness, along with the organizational and collaborative skills and goal orientation that contribute to fundraising success.
The Assistant Director of Development (ADOD) is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding patients and families who support the Health System through leadership annual gifts and major gifts. He/she will staff a number of assigned Health System departments and programs, consult with other programs that request fundraising assistance, and play a key role in building a pipeline of donors who can provide significant support in the Health System's next campaign. Job duties will include fielding referrals from physicians and other caregivers whose patients have expressed a desire to give, and coordinating follow-up for those who have been engaged through direct mail or events. The ADOD's work will uphold patient confidentiality and conform to the highest ethical standards, honoring the relationship between patient and healthcare provider.
This is an entry-level gift officer position. Besides the skills and personal qualities described above, the ideal candidate will have a strong teamwork orientation, track record of success in a customer-focused field, and the ability to work effectively in a complex environment. The ability to travel regionally and to work occasional nights and weekends is required.
The ADOD reports to the Assistant Vice President & Campaign Director and works closely with other colleagues on the Healthcare Philanthropy team and across the Health System Development Office.
UVA Health System includes a Medical Center, School of Medicine, and School of Nursing. The Medical Center includes a 584-bed hospital, level I trauma center, nationally recognized cancer and heart centers, and primary and specialty clinics throughout Central Virginia.
