Posting Summary:
The Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports, a division of Athletics at the University of Virginia, is seeking qualified applicants for Poplar Ridge Challenge Course Facilitator, a part-time wage position.

Intramural-Recreational Sports serves the University community through first-class recreational engagement that fosters wellness, impacts lives and generates life-long memories. The Poplar Ridge Challenge Course is an integral element of these recreation offerings as an outdoor experiential learning and training program that was established in 1995, and redesigned and constructed in 2008. Typical programs revolve around team building, problem solving, and leadership development concepts through engagement in experiential initiatives, low ropes activities, and high ropes activities.

Facilitators take on many roles--trainer, leader, mediator, coach, role model, instructor, and counselor--and typically facilitate teams of 8-16 participants through the experiential activities and accompanying learning outcomes discussions. This is a hands-on facilitator role using ropes, harnesses, and group belay systems. Majority of work is at the Poplar Ridge Challenge Course, an outdoor facility, with activities transitioning indoors in inclement weather.

Ideal candidates would be undergraduate, graduate, or community members with experience teaching, facilitating, or leading groups. Applicants should possess creative energy and have a strong interest in team building, outdoor instruction and/or organizational dynamics.

Training, including CPR and First Aid, are provided.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to teach, facilitate or lead groups. Possess creative energy and have a strong interest in team building, outdoor instruction and/or organizational dynamics.
