About The Unit:

Unit Job Summary: Research Specialist 1: The Section of Emergency Medicine in conjunction with the Initiative on Islam & Medicine at the University of Chicago is hiring a research assistant to work on a variety of projects spanning community-engaged, bioethics, health services, educational, and clinical research. The Research Specialist will work under the direction of Dr. Aasim I. Padela MD MSc as the primary lead on analyses and manuscript preparation from a community-engaged, religiously-tailored behavioral intervention to improve mammography screening among Muslims, and will support other researchers in the Section on projects related to mental health screening, mobile health technology, educational interventions and emergency resuscitation. Research tasks associated with the position include conducting systematic and narrative literature reviews, administering surveys and conducting quantitative analyses, database management, research participant recruitment, conducting qualitative interviews and analyses, assisting with manuscript preparation and carrying out IRB submissions and assuring continued compliance.

Unit Education: Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted required. Master's degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted preferred.

Unit Experience: One year of relevant research experience preferred. Prior experience in community-engaged, qualitative analyses, and quantitative clinical research evidenced by MPH and/or MS degrees and related course-work preferred.

Unit Job Function Competencies: Knowledge in relevant scientific field required. -Exceptional time-management and organizational skills evidenced by prior project coordination and project management experiences and/or community organizing activities -Superb written and oral communication skills evidenced through prior manuscript preparation or thesis writing and experience in working with multidisciplinary project teams -A one-year commitment is required for the position
