Position Information: Under general direction from the Associate Dean/Chief Financial Administrative Officer, the School of Medicine Executive Director of Finance leads the School's financial enterprise. The incumbent leads and manages financial management, budgeting, planning and operations which requires a deep understanding of the challenges facing the clinical, education, and academic components of a medical organization and of the financial system that supports it. The incumbent will establish operational objectives and work plans, and delegate assignments to subordinate managers. Senior management reviews the objectives to determine operational success. Manages, prepares, administers, and directs control of budget/organizational resources. Manages the activities of the financial analyst staff. Reviews and approves recommendations for financial planning and control. Directs activities that ensure division and department adherence to approved budget. Involved in developing, modifying and executing policies that affect immediate operation(s) and may also have organization-wide effect. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules. About the UCR School of Medicine The School of Medicine at the University of California, Riverside is the sixth school of medicine in the University of California system and the first public medical school on the West Coast in more than 40 years. The school has the distinctive mission of training a diverse physician workforce and developing research and healthcare delivery programs to improve the health of medically underserved populations in the Inland Empire region of California. The medical school also offers a Ph.D. program in biomedical sciences, and operates residency training programs in the internal medicine, psychiatry, family medicine, primary care pediatrics (in partnership with Loma Linda University), and a cardiovascular fellowship program (in partnership with St. Bernardine Medical Center).
Minimum Requirements: Client services oriented - good listening, critical thinking and analytical skills.
Advanced knowledge of financial policies, practices and systems. budgeting and reporting techniques; fund accounting; human resource planning; accounting and bookkeeping;
Ability to evaluate processes to establish and maintain appropriate accountability structures and strong internal control elements.
Ability to multi-task.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels; ability to interact with a diverse population.
Exemplary leadership and communication skills required to balance sensitivity to values and expectations of all constituents with the need to ensure unbiased, sound financial decisions.
Superior managerial skills combined with ability to create and direct a high-performing finance team. Knowledge of issues and challenges facing the clinical, education, and research components of an academic medical organization.
Direct financial experience in an academic healthcare, school of medicine, or other clinical/research related enterprise.
Preferred Qualifications: Negotiation skills
Advanced written and oral communication skills with assertiveness in presentation and selling of idea.
