Description of Position

This job listing is for a part time instructor who will teach pediatric nursing in the classroom. There is a total of 45 hours per semester which includes lecture presentation, preparation and monitoring of exams. This instructor will:

• Provide exemplary instruction in accordance with approved course outlines and prepare exams

• Inform students of their academic progress, course requirements, and evaluation procedures

• Maintain scholastic records and submit them according to published deadlines.

• Work with current faculty to ensure continuity and application of curriculum.


Serve a diverse student body in age, ethnicity and academic skills


Duties and Responsibilities

Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;

2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;

3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work; 

4. meeting with students outside of class;

5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;

6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;

7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;

8. maintaining accurate academic records;

9. performing other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience

1. A Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing, education or administration.

2. At least one year’s experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care.

3. Completion of at least one year’s experience teaching courses related to nursing or a course which includes practice in teaching nursing.

4. Demonstrate “clinical competence” as defined by the Board of Registered Nursing. Definition found in Section 1420 as follows: [“Clinical Competency” means that a nursing program faculty member possesses and exercises the degree of learning, skill, care and experience ordinarily possessed and exercised by a staff level registered nurses on the clinical unit to which the instructor is assigned”].

5. A current valid license to practice as a registered nurse in California.
