Adjunct DSP&S to provide academic, career and disability management counseling to students with disabilities. Location is primarily at the Pittsburg campus and may also include Brentwood Center assignment occasionally.

 

Job Duties:

• Provide academic, career and disability management counseling to students with disabilities

• Provide guidance to students with disabilities in decision-making processes and their exploration of alternatives with regard to educational, career and personal goals

• Outreach with service area high schools and community groups

• Determine educational limitations and reasonable academic accommodations for students with disabilities

• Work collaboratively as part of DSP&S team and Counseling Department

• Participate in Counseling Department trainings and DSP&S staff meetings

• Liaison with LMC faculty regarding accommodations and DSP&S policies and procedures

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;

2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;

3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work; 

4. meeting with students outside of class;

5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;

6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;

7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;

8. maintaining accurate academic records;

9. performing other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience

Possession of a master’s degree, or equivalent foreign

degree, in rehabilitation counseling, OR

 

Possession of a master’s degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in special education, and twenty four or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work in counseling, guidance, student personnel, psychology, or social work;

 

OR

 

A master’s degree in counseling, guidance, student personnel, psychology. career development, or social welfare; and 

either twelve or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically in counseling or rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities, or two years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following; (A) Counseling or guidance for students with disabilities; or (B) Counseling and/or guidance in industry; government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities.

 

Desirable Qualifications

Previous experience at an educational institution or community organization determining reasonable accommodations for adults with disabilities.
