Public Health Faculty Position (Non-Tenure Track)

Department of Social & Behavioral Sciences

The Temple University College of Public Health, an interdisciplinary college devoted to an innovative educational and research environment that brings a transdisciplinary perspective of health, wellness, and social welfare, invites applications for an experienced non-tenure track faculty member to teach in our undergraduate and graduate public health programs. The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) strives to promote healthy communities and train those who excel in public health practice and research. We are committed to understanding and addressing the needs of vulnerable and underserved populations by leading and engaging in education, research, and service, often in collaboration with community partners. We prepare graduates for exciting career paths as community health educators, counselors and practitioners, policy makers and trailblazing researchers.

The Department. The SBS Department seeks a talented, enthusiastic educator with experience in public health practice and/or public health program development and management in settings such as local, county and state departments of health, hospitals, or community health centers. The ideal candidate will also have experience supervising and educating a diverse body of students in public health practice. In addition to teaching community-based public health program planning and evaluation at the undergraduate and graduate level, we seek generalists who could teach in one or more of the following areas: public health nutrition; introduction to public health; addictions; and disease prevention. Experience with online teaching and innovative approaches, such as flipped, blended or hybrid classrooms, is a plus. An earned DrPH or PhD is preferred, but exceptional applicants nearing completion of their doctorate will be considered if they have evidence of strong teaching skills. For applicants with a PhD, an MPH degree is desirable, too. College teaching experience is required.

The College. The College of Public Health, a constellation of 9 academic units of public health, health profession and social work disciplines, enrolls nearly 5,000 students in more than 50 academic programs taught by more than 160 talented faculty. We are proud to have one of the first undergraduate public health programs in the nation. We are launching an online MPH program in 2017-2018. All public health academic programs are accredited by the Council on Education in Public Health (CEPH). The College has seen remarkable growth and organizational expansion in the shape and configuration of programs, research profile, increase in rankings, and collaboration across academic units. The College’s innovative research focuses on medical interventions, social, behavioral, and environmental inquiries, and basic science and is sponsored by NIH, NSF, and other major funders.
