Central College: Founded in 1853, Central College of Pella, Iowa, is a private, residential four-year liberal arts college known for its academic rigor and strength in global experiential learning, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), sustainability education, athletics success and tradition, and leadership and service. Central continues to value its long-standing relationship with the Reformed Church in America. The college participates in NCAA Division III athletics and is a member of the Iowa Conference. POSITION: Technical Director/Generalist, Department of Theatre. Administrative position with teaching responsibilities. Annual appointment term is 1 August-31 May. Start date August 2017.
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Successful candidates will have an MFA and relevant documentation of technical productivity. Primary responsibilities include coordinating and maintaining production crew work in the Theatre Department. Courses to be taught may include stagecraft, lighting design, or others as qualified. Expectations include supervision of student production crew in collaboration with faculty and guest artists. Candidates should be committed to working with undergraduates in a liberal arts environment that encourages interdisciplinary working relationships across the campus. College level teaching experience preferred.
DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE: Theatre taught in a liberal arts context offers the student a way of exploring humanity, cultures, literature, design, the communication process, and many interdisciplinary arts. Utilizing classical, contemporary and newly created works, the Central College Theatre Department intentionally offers balance between the traditional artistic elements of theatre and an intellectual understanding of the diverse theoretical, historical, and cultural aspects of this art. Theatre faculty intentionally mentor students through a process of quality theory, practice, and experiential opportunities with departmental productions designed to engage, inspire and challenge our community of learners to create, evolve and transform their global perspective. Theatre students prepare for careers in theatre, for further studies in theatre at the graduate level, or for the pursuit of careers in diverse fields outside of professional theatre. Faculty members in the Theatre Department also have the privilege of working with undergraduate students who represent majors from across the campus community.
The Theatre Department is housed in the Kruidenier Center and includes a flexible 160+ seat main stage black box (with fly system), a black box studio theatre, scenic and costume shops, access to a classroom with computer lab and additional dedicated theatre space.
