Examples of Duties/Essential Functions

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Oversee, coordinate, develop, and participate in on and off campus outreach, recruitment, and retention programs and services to attract, retain, and support students. Coordinate and participate in on and off campus enrollment and retention activities; refer students to other campus and community programs and services as appropriate. Create and make presentations to business and community based organizations and agencies in connection with community outreach and recruitment efforts and events. Assist in the development and administration of the department budgets. Design and implement programs and workshops to address students. concerns and needs and to familiarize students with college services such as admissions and records, financial aid, matriculation, and counseling. Select, train, evaluate and provide work direction to work study students, student assistants, and other personnel as assigned. Develop and assist in the design and preparation of written information concerning available college and community services and programs for distribution to staff and students. Gather, compile, and organize a variety of data concerning student services procedures and programs; prepare and maintain accurate data, records, and files; prepare detailed written and statistical reports. Prepare and conduct in-service training for faculty, staff, and managers to promote access to and increased awareness of available student support services and programs; and to develop techniques for identifying and referring students needing additional assistance. Participate in special activities and events as needed. Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience
Any combination of experience and training that likely would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: Education: Equivalent to the completion of an A.A degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Three years of experience performing responsible duties designing and providing services to students similar to those provided by the student services or human services programs with the District. Licenses/Certificates: Ability to obtain and maintain a valid, appropriate California driver.s license and a good driving record.

Minimum Qualification-Knowledge Of
District and other policies, procedures, and regulations related to community college services and programs. College and community based programs and services. Philosophy and objectives of students services programs; problems encountered by students at risk. Basic interviewing and test proctoring techniques. Proper English usage including spelling, grammar, and punctuation. General principles and practices of supervision.

Minimum Qualification-Skill To
Design, develop, and implement effective student support services and programs; and identify and obtain resources and other needed programs and services to meet students' academic and vocational needs and objectives. Gather data and prepare needed reports. Provide work direction and lead supervision to other staff and students. Develop and deliver effective presentations and workshops for students, faculty and the business/ community. Motivate students to continue their education at a post-secondary institution. Prepare and maintain accurate data, records, and files. Analyze situations accurately, determine priorities and adopt an effective course of action. Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; prepare clear and concise technical and statistical reports. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of performing duties.

Desirable Qualifications
• Experience coordinating events and activities including planning, logistics (including working with scheduling, vendors, contracts, transportation, catering, travel/lodging, and marketing), implementation, and evaluation.
• Ability to carefully follow procedures and policies to process detailed paperwork, including keeping track of and implementing new policies and procedures.
• Experience tracking and analyzing data for specific student populations, including utilizing spreadsheets and databases to create queries to export and manage data.
• Capability and flexibility to successfully coordinate and prioritize short-term and long-term projects with multiple components and shifting deadlines.
• Ability to successfully complete duties on-time in a high-energy/high-traffic work environment with significant student and faculty interaction.
• Familiarity with, and ability to, problem-solve with students utilizing the wide range of academic and student services available in a higher education setting.
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering student equity and ability to communicate and work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community members of diverse backgrounds, cultures, languages, and abilities.

Special Instructions to Applicants
Los Medanos College is seeking a full-time Coordinator to join the dynamic team in the Transfer & Career Services department.

Under the leadership of the Director of Transfer & Career Services, and working closely with the other professional and student staff, this position is focused on supporting Transfer & Career Services - a fast-paced department within Student Services at Los Medanos College. This department oversees career services (including student employment processing), 4-year university transfer programming and assistance, and a robust learning community (Transfer Academy). This role will involve a significant amount of student and staff interaction to coordinate and process the hiring of students on-campus, develop and present related programming, and facilitate on and off-campus communication for job postings. Additionally, this role will provide program and logistical support for Transfer services and the Transfer Academy, including being the Starfish point person for all learning communities at the college. Finally, as a member of the Transfer & Career Services team, this person will provide general support and participate in department events and activities both on and off campus, as well as staff the front-desk as needed.
Note: New employees will be placed at the first step which is $4,572 per month. Based on current salary placement guidelines, all step increases for which an employee becomes eligible shall take place on July 1st of each fiscal year. These increases will occur, on an annual basis, until the maximum step of $5,570 per month is reached on the salary schedule.
