Job Description

Hires staff with assistance of advisor. Ultimately responsible for content, production, distribution of website and The Campus Ledger newspaper.

Plans editorial content of website and newspaper with staff.

Assigns stories, photos and cartoons to respective editors and sets deadlines accordingly. Conducts regular staff meetings to monitor staff progress. Regularly meets with radio station manager, television station manager and advisers of all three media outlets to report on projects that may affect Student Media as a whole.

Oversees selection and writing of staff editorials, writes one personal column per issue and is prepared to write news, feature or sports articles if necessary.

Reviews final web content and layout prior to publication. Serves as spokesperson for The Campus Ledger.

Other duties as may be assigned.

Required Skills

Required Skills: High-school graduate or equivalent required.

Must have successfully completed JOUR 122 or similar college-level news writing course (transcript required if not taken at JCCC)

Must be enrolled in nine (9) credit hours at JCCC each semester with a cumulative 2.0 GPA


Required Experience

* Completion of six (6) hours or more of English and journalism.

* Effective writing and editing skills.

* Previous supervisory experience.

* Experience working at a school publication.

Preferred:

* Completion of a minimum of six (6) hours of college-level English or journalism courses preferred.

* Previous supervisory experience preferred.

* Previous experience on school publications also preferred.
