General Summary of Position:
The Nuclear Engineering Program at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (which is part of the Chemical Engineering Department) is seeking outstanding individuals for an anticipated tenure-track faculty position for the academic year beginning September 2017. The new faculty will be expected to have an immediate and significant impact on the Nuclear Science and Engineering programs at UMass Lowell.

UMass Lowell is home to one of only 26 research reactors in the U.S. With several recent hires, there is a growing interdisciplinary collaboration amongst faculty in nuclear engineering, nuclear physics, security, radiological sciences, and medical physics

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering or closely related discipline and must have a Ph.D. at the time of application. The successful candidate will have a well-established research program, or demonstrated potential to establish a research record, with strong collaborations with national laboratories, governmental agencies (DOE, NRC, NNSA, etc.), and industry. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through teaching in both our undergraduate and graduate programs, developing a strong externally-funded research program, and through service to the Department and the University.

A broad range of interests within the nuclear engineering discipline will be considered, including but not limited to, reactor control (digital ICS), nuclear safeguards, detection and measurements, nuclear materials, and nuclear fuel cycle. An applicant with experience in experimental research and teaching that would make use of the facilities in the UMass Lowell Radiation Laboratory, consisting of a 1 MW pool-type research reactor and a 5.5 MV van-de-Graaff Accelerator, is desirable.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
-Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering or closely related discipline (must have Ph.D. at the time of application)
-A well-established, or demonstrated potential to establish a research record with strong collaborations with national laboratories, governmental agencies (DOE, NRC, NNSA, etc.) and industry
-The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
-Teaching experience at a 4 year post-secondary institution preferred
-A commitment to develop and sustain an externally-funded research program
-A demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and publication
