Position Summary:

The Director for University Strategic Communications will plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the communications and marketing efforts for the University. The position will serve as the University’s chief communications and marketing strategist and content creator / manager, and advise the President and senior administration on all matters related to media engagement, branding, and image. The position includes administrative responsibilities in the following areas at the University: content creation and management, media relations and social media management, publications and marketing, special events, interactive (web) and digital communications, internal communications, and alumni affairs.


The position is a critical link in the University’s efforts to develop and execute a comprehensive institutional strategic communications plan and marketing / content creation strategy that will connect Saint Augustine’s University to its key markets and stakeholders, enable it to develop a consistent and coordinated institutional image, and promote its regional and national reputation. This position provides the leadership and vision needed to promote strategic communication and understanding among the University and its core internal and external constituencies. Additionally, the position will play a key role (through content creation/marketing) in the University’s overall recruitment marketing efforts. The position will be responsible for drafting press releases, writing speeches, and other print material for the public and events.

  • The Director for University Strategic Communications reports directly to the President, and will work closely with cabinet, key administrators, and deans to advise them on matters related to public image and communications,
  • The Director for University Strategic Communications will be the direct supervisor of the key service units that support the University’s strategic communications, alumni, content creation, and management/marking and branding efforts.




A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in communications/strategic communications, public relations, journalism, writing for television-radio-film or related field in desired.  A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in news media management, marketing strategic communications, public relations or related field is preferred. Significant expertise and experience working with the media, communications, journalism in higher education is essential.



  • A minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience with demonstrated professional advancement, and the ability to succeed while assuming increased responsibility and multiple projects.
  • The Director for University Strategic Communications will supervise the management of WAUG 750AM and WAUG TV.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations and information with diplomacy and tact, and to act calmly and objectively in both sensitive and crisis situations.
  • Must submit a Communications and Marketing portfolio.



Physical Requirements:

Standing, squatting, walk up flights of stairs, and able to lift or move at least 25 pounds.
