Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Friday Institute conducts research, develops educational resources, provides professional development programs for educators, helps create technology infrastructures, advocates to improve teaching and learning, evaluates educational innovations, and helps inform policy-making.

Essential Job Duties: The Friday Institute is experiencing an increase in external networking, outreach and partnership opportunities, and is therefore seeking a Communication Specialist to serve as a key team member. The candidate will assisting in maintaining a comprehensive Information and Communications plan for the Friday Institute. This position reports to the Associate Director and will support dissemination and outreach efforts, to include working with others to craft a consistent communications message, assisting with new and communication story creation, policy briefs, white papers, and content for other Friday Institute projects. A successful candidate will have knowledge of journalistic principles and techniques for disseminating information to the public through a variety of media, knowledge of writing and editing methods, and experience writing according to correct English usage and appropriate style guide.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Department Required Skills: Extensive knowledge of either Apple or PC platforms are required Excellent communication skills - verbal and written Thorough knowledge of journalistic principles and techniques for disseminating information to the public through a variety of media Ability to edit and analyze materials prepared by others Skills in design, such as development of multimedia, layout, and publication design Demonstrated experience using web-based tools and/or social media to promote an organization's mission Working knowledge of current trends in Educational Intervention

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Knowledge of University policies and procedures Experience working in conjunction with multiple external agencies.
