General Summary: The University of North Georgia (UNG) is currently accepting applications for the position of Electronic Resources Librarian, Assistant Professor of Library Science. Primary responsibilities of this position consist of providing management, centralized support and troubleshooting of electronic library resources and services for the UNG libraries, including databases, e-collections and proxy server; in addition to providing leadership in developing and maintaining awareness of emerging technologies, standards, and technical issues relating to access and usage of electronic resources; recommends and implements new initiatives for managing and processing electronic resources.

This position works closely with the Manager of Technical Services and the SysAdmin to provide discovery, access and preservation and In conference with the Dean, works with vendors and selectors on acquisition, licensing, pricing and invoicing.

Other duties to include reference, research, and library instruction as needed, in-person, by telephone, or electronically to students, faculty, staff, and the community. Additionally, provides library collection development services to faculty and others in assigned subject areas; serves as the libraries main contact for the website; creates and manages online tutorials and library content management systems in support of instruction for the libraries; and administers/maintains the libraries social media sites and serves on the libraries marketing committee. Occasional night and weekend work is required. This position reports to the Manager of Technical Services.

Job Duties & Responsibilities: The Electronic Resources Librarian will:
  • Work closely with the Manager of Technical Services and the SysAdmin to provide discovery, access and preservation of e-resources and n conference with the Dean, works with vendors and selectors on acquisition, licensing, pricing and invoicing.
  • Provide management, centralized support and troubleshooting of electronic library resources and services for the UNG libraries, including databases, e-collections and proxy server.
  • Develop and maintaining awareness of emerging technologies, standards, and technical issues relating to access and usage of electronic resources; recommends and implements new initiatives for managing and processing electronic resources.
  • Serve the library community through providing reference, research, and library instruction as needed, in-person, by telephone, or electronically.
  • Contribute to library collection development through providing collection development services to faculty and others in assigned subject areas.
  • Support library instruction, communication and marketing efforts through serving as the libraries main contact for the website, managing the libraries social media sites, developing and managing online tutorials and library content management systems, and participating in the libraries marketing committee.
  • Serve on College, University System, and/or community committees and participate in professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Librarian-Dahlonega Campus or the Manager of Technical Services.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Superior knowledge in e-resource management or technology-based librarianship in an academic or public library; knowledge of integrated library systems, electronic library resources, library-related software, and remote access processes
  • Proficiency in application software, research strategies, creating online instructional support/tutorials
  • Strong oral, written, and presentation skills; excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Initiative, creativity, and flexibility in adapting to new technologies, services environment, and instructional methodologies
  • Ability to multi-task, manage workload and confer with colleagues and IT on technological matters


Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
  • MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Two years of professional library experience, academic library preferred; supervisory experience
