Visiting Assistant Professor in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

The Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2017.

Faculty and students in the WGSS Program explore the construction of women, gender, and sexuality in different social, cultural, political, economic, aesthetic, and historical contexts by combining methods and insights of traditional academic disciplines with innovations in interdisciplinary feminist scholarship. Our research and teaching illuminate the complex and changing local, comparative, and transnational processes that contour gender and sexuality; examine local, comparative, and transnational settings; and analyze the diverse narratives, structures, and patterns that shape everyday life, social institutions, and cultures.

The successful candidate will be expected to share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate level and to the mentoring of students in their professional development. The successful candidate will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their activities the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and contribute to the development of pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.


A Ph.D. in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies or a closely related area completed by start date and a record of outstanding teaching. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.


Experience in teaching Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies courses, especially at the introductory level; experience teaching LGBTQ topics and working with LGBTQ students; research interests in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies fields; the ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience.


This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track position at the Storrs campus, which may be renewed annually for a maximum of three years if funding is available. The successful candidate's academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Faculty may also have the opportunity to teach at one of UConn's regional campuses. The teaching load for this position is seven 3-credit courses per year, or the equivalent.
