Position Summary:

At the Long Island State Veterans Home, our Director of Admissions is responsible for planning, coordinating and controlling the activities of the Admissions Department. The incumbent will maintain the census and resident day statistics of The Home.

Duties of a Director of Admissions include the following but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates admission of residents to the long term care facility with proper documentation including but not limited to: the NYS PRI (DOH 694), NYS Screen (DOH 695), honorable discharge papers, sex offender registry check.
  • Completes a pay source verification prior to admission to the facility.
  • Identifies, develops and targets the most productive referral sources, which includes maintaining a professional relationship with hospital discharge planners.
  • Maintains professional affiliations and networking by conducting personal visits to area hospitals and community referral sources.
  • Distributes daily census of the Long Island State Veterans Home (LISVH).
  • Collaborates with the LISVH Business Office to assist in the timely collection of outstanding balances.
  • Works closely with members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure appropriate admissions into the facility.
  • Directs daily functions of Admissions Coordinators and Medicaid Coordinator.
  • Coordinates Admissions Committee meetings as needed.
  • Facilitates enrollment in Managed Medicaid plans.
  • Attends daily LISVH morning report and provides interdisciplinary team with updates of facility's census.
Working Conditions:

Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness. May be exposed to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree. Five (5) years' experience in a long term care Admissions environment. Working knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid, Managed Care Financial Systems. Knowledge of RUG's II Scoring System of the NYS PRI (DOH694). Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in healthcare related field. NYS Screen (DOH 695) certification. Special Notes: The Long Island State Veterans Home is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on our 25-acre campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises. The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation. Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from the Long Island State Veterans Home Employee Health Department, clear a background investigation; submit three (3) written references, and provide a copy of the required license(s)/certificate(s), if applicable.
