Degree and Area of Specialization: Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible administrative work and supervisory experience which includes student financial aid functions or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Experience navigating complex regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated strong organizational, analytical, detail, and communication skills.
-Knowledge of federal, state, NCAA, and institutional financial aid regulatory requirements.
-Proven record of working with complex situations that require sensitivity to unique family circumstances.
-Excellent in providing and coaching others in professional, courteous, and tactful service delivery while establishing and maintaining harmonious and effective work relations with students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
-Ability to effectively manage constituents that may have difficult financial aid queries and may be experiencing distress that could result in occasional confrontational situations.
-Ability to work under pressure.
-Ability to set priorities and manage multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously.
-Skill in the operation of standard office equipment and related software in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner.
-Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information.
Position Summary: The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) endeavors to generate, evaluate, and implement strategic initiatives that create sustainable, long-term improvements to the University of Wisconsin - Madison's financial aid programs and in alignment with OSFA's student-centric mission, vision, and goals.
The Associate Director of Outreach & Advising is dedicated to developing the initiatives and efficient procedures of advising students and coordinating outreach both on- and off-campus. The position assists in ensuring all federal, state, NCAA, and institutional regulatory requirements are met. The Associate Director of Outreach & Advising also must continually strive to improve business practices that serve students, their families, and the campus community.
The Associate Director of Outreach & Advising serves as a senior deputy and principal advisor to the Director of Financial Aid. The position is responsible for setting the Outreach & Advising Unit's strategic direction as well as being an innovative and contributing member of the Director's team that establishes the strategic short- and long-term direction of the Office of Financial Aid. The Associate Director of Outreach & Advising provides assistance and advice on key policy initiatives and establishes, updates and reviews policies and procedures in accordance with University, state, and federal guidelines.
