Position Information: Candidate selected for this position is expected to assist the scientist in conducting laboratory research, in maintaining greenhouse plants and in conducting some light field work associated with the research projects. Laboratory work involves conducting DNA extractions from psyllids and plants, entering data using excel and setting up real-time PCR reactions. Occasional greenhouse work will be needed to ensure that experimental plants are maintained well. Some field work will involve assisting the scientist in evaluation of experimental 3D psyllid traps and conducting citrus breeding during flowering season. Routine lab maintenance includes preparation of necessary reagents, following laboratory safety techniques and autoclaving plastic ware as needed.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
Minimum GPA of 2.5.
Experience working in a molecular biology laboratory.
Familiarity with computer programs like Excel, Powerpoint and Word. Some knowledge of citrus germplasm.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience working in a molecular biology lab.
Experience working with citrus huanglongbing disease.
Preliminary knowledge of citrus germplasm.
Real-time PCR experience.
