The Controller is a full-time, 12 month, MPP (Management Personnel Plan) position and reports directly to the Associate Vice President, Financial & Support Services.
The Controller has the overall responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and maintenance of the University and Auxiliary’s financial records, promoting timeliness of financial transactions, preparation of financial reports, and providing services, consultation and training to the campus community: faculty, staff, and students. This includes ensuring fiscal accountability, adequate internal controls, advocating and analyzing regulations, legislation, and Chancellor’s Office directives to ensure compliance. The Controller provides effective leadership for the department and communicates accounting matters to the University community.
Qualifications and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or other closely related field; seven to ten years of progressive administrative or professional accounting or equivalent experience, of which at least five years must have been in a full time supervisory capacity; as well as the following specialized skills.
• Ability to work within the CSU system-wide financial system (PeopleSoft) or equivalent
• Ability to work with various reporting tools, including dashboard reporting and query tools
• Ability to interpret and apply Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Federal, State, Chancellor’s Office (CO) standards, campus policies and procedures
• Ability to function at a high level in Microsoft Office Suite of products
• Ability to analyze problems and apply strategic thinking & creative problem-solving skills
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships within a diverse/multi-cultural population
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in written form
• Possess excellent customer service skills to enhance the value of Financial Services to the campus community
• Ability to manage and direct the day-to-day operations of an accounting department
The ideal candidate will possess:
• An advanced degree or certification in a related field.
• CSU or higher education experience
• Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws
