Job Description:

The Residential Life team is a part of the Residential Services Department within the Division of Student Affairs at Alfred State. It is composed of a dedicated, student-oriented group of professionals who create an environment conducive to learning about one's self, community, and society. We provide learning opportunities, skill development, services, and personal contacts that foster successful, well-balanced and fulfilling life experiences for the students of Alfred State and our community.

Residential Services is looking for a dynamic and student focused individual for the position of Area Coordinator. This live-in position will supervise and manage the apartment style residential housing units at Alfred State. In addition, the Area Coordinator will have duties and responsibilities in two functional areas within the Division of Student Affairs, Student Housing and programmatic support for the Office of Equity and Inclusion.

This position will include weekend and evening hours and completion of an on-duty coverage. The Area Coordinator is also responsible for selection, training, and supervision of a residential student staff; community development within the living-learning environment, residence hall governance, coordination of residence halls residential curriculums, serving as liaison between students, faculty, and administrators with regard to college policies in residence across the campus, enforcement of community standards, the student code of conduct and other aspects of the disciplinary process, administration of college policies and residence hall operations, including opening and closing activities, demonstration of professionalism in interactions with all other campus constituencies and guests of the College, plus the promotion of campus activities and student/faculty initiatives.

In addition, the Area Coordinator will report to the Assistant Director of College Housing, and will assist with the comprehensive student location and housing assignment process in the Office of College Housing. The Area Coordinator will work closely with the CDO and Coordinator of intercultural Student Success in the development, delivery, and support for that areas programmatic goals and objectives.


Preferred Requirements:
  • Preferred Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Higher Education Leadership, Organizational Leadership, Public Administration, Counseling or other related field required.
  • At least 1 year of experience directly related to higher education, emphasis in housing and residential life and diversity and inclusion.

  • Baccalaureate degree in Higher Education Administration, Higher Education Leadership, Organizational Leadership, Public Administration, Counseling or other related field required.
  • Experience directly related to higher education, emphasis on housing and residential life and student conduct administration preferred.
  • Experience directly related facilitating and/or execution of programming for values, ethics, and diverse prospective.
  • Experience leading professional teams or programs in higher education
  • Experience with selection and training of both professional and student staff
  • Experience with use of Banner or similar data management systems
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated collaborative and coordinating skills
  • Excellent communicator in both oral and written communication
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
