Job Description Summary:

The focus of the Experimental Nuclear Physics group at The George Washington University remains the understanding of the strong interaction in the nuclear medium. Our intention is to measure the elementary amplitudes for meson photoproduction and baryon excitation on the nucleon and see how they are modified in the nuclear medium, particularly in the light nuclei, where the nuclear density changes dramatically with very little change in nuclear size.

Job Duties Include:

  • Working with faculty and students from GWU and other universities to propose, plan, mount and perform experiments at Jefferson Laboratory and other national and international nuclear facilities.
  • Write high level programs to collect the data
  • Analyze data from these experiments and interpret the results
  • Present the results at scientific conferences
  • Publish papers in Physics Journals
  • Purchase and build equipment as needed to perform the experiments

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position

Minimum Qualifications:

Require’s a PhD in the field or in a related area.

Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in experimental Nuclear or Particle Physics. Completed and published thesis or dissertation. Competent in high-level programing language. Works well in a collaborative environment.
