Posting Summary:
The Rotating Machinery and Controls (ROMAC) Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia seeks candidates for a part-time Senior Scientist position. ROMAC is an industrial research consortium, which performs research in a broad range of application areas related to turbomachinery. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of faculty, graduate students and research professionals.

Duties include leading the development of new computational methods based on a combination of commercial software and in-house development software. The successful candidate will interact with faculty, students, research professionals and representatives from the ROMAC member companies. The successful candidate will also be expected to attend professional meetings, give presentations at conferences as well as at ROMAC's Annual meeting, publish journal articles, and develop funding proposals. Funding at a level of one day per week is guaranteed for one year. Opportunity for increased hours based on the availability of funds.

A PhD in mechanical engineering or a closely related field with a strong background and experience in turbomachinery is required. Knowledge and experience in specific subjects such as rotor dynamics, bearings, seals, and computational modeling of rotating machinery is required. Industrial experience in the field of turbomachinery, particularly in the area of fluid-film bearing modeling and analysis is highly desirable.
