    We are currently seeking a Texas Grant College Mentor who will advance the institution's proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.

    Your mission: You'll mentor prospective, new and returning students. You will advise them of educational opportunities and requirements, and provide guidance with educational planning through graduation.

    A typical day: In the morning, you might prepare for an event, and your afternoon could be spent helping students research career, financial aid, and higher education options, or assisting Faculty and Student Services Staff regarding educational issues such as study skills, financial resources, college readiness, program selection and career exploration.

    SUMMARY This position is responsible for directly mentoring individuals by providing college information and resources.


  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Provide students with college preparation materials and admission requirements.

    Mentor first time in college students and returning students.

    Provide guidance and support to all students.

    Prepare students for later educational experiences by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities.

    Assist students with researching career, financial aid, and higher education options.

    Preparation for events, activities, and presentations.

    Assist Faculty and Student Services Staff regarding educational issues such as study skills, financial resources, college readiness, program selection and career exploration.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

    EDUCATION

    High school diploma or GED and current HCC Student.

    EXPERIENCE

    Prefer one (1) year work experience in post-secondary institution and/ or tutoring setting.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    Ability to work well with others

    Excellent leadership, interpersonal and oral communication skills

    Knowledge of college resources

    Problem-solving skills

    Creative Thinking Skills

    Possess good interpersonal skills to perform successfully in a large multicultural environment

    Ability to be well organized, task-oriented and flexible
