Assistant Professor in Sport Leadership
The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion in the College of Education at the University of Kentucky is seeking candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor position with doctoral preparation in sport leadership/administration/management (Ph.D., Ed.D. or equivalent) beginning academic year 2017-2018. The nine-month appointment is effective August 16, 2017. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The flagship university of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the University of Kentucky is home to more than 30,000 students and nearly 3,000 faculty members. Located in Lexington, the Horse Capital of the World, UK is a major employer in the small city of approximately 315,000.
The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion (KHP), housed in the College of Education, is comprised of 26 full-time faculty members and offers undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs in the academic areas of exercise science, physical education, health promotion, and sport leadership. KHP serves as the academic focus for more than 1,100 undergraduate and graduate students who are seeking degree programs in the department. One of the primary areas of focus at the master's level is sport leadership. The department anticipates expanding this program in the near future to include the broader area of sport management. We also anticipate the addition of an undergraduate degree program in sport management in the near future.
This position is in the Regular Title Series faculty category and requires the faculty member to teach 12 credits per year in sport leadership and other areas of need based on expertise. The Regular Title Series appointment requires the faculty member to also perform research/scholarly and service-related activities. The assistant professor will have the opportunity to serve on graduate student thesis committees.
The successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D. or equivalent) in sport leadership/management/administration or a very closely-related field. The search committee will only review applicants who have completed their doctoral studies upon submission of their materials. Applicants who have demonstrated successful teaching experience at the university graduate level will be more highly ranked than those without such experience. Also, experience advising and supervising graduate students in sport management is important but not necessarily required.
