Ads Peer Mentor Certificate
Alcohol and Drug Studies at San Jose City College offers the ADS Peer Mentorship Certificate to assist former inmates in the community prepare for peer mentorship roles through the Santa Clara County re-entry system. This 9 unit certificate includes 3 courses and supervised work experience. Upon completion of this certificate students will be well placed to enter the Alcohol and Drug Studies Program at SJCC toward addiction counselor certification.

Required Courses Credit Hours: (8 - 11 Required)
GUIDE085 Blueprint for Success 1
ADS070 Introduction to Chemical Dependency 3
ADS074 Ethics, and Personal and Professional Growth 3
ADS138 Work Experience 1-4

Total: 8.00 - 11.00

The Instructor will be a San Jose City College employee. You will teach on location at the Re-entry program for 3 hours, two mornings a week, as early as this summer with Introduction to Chemical Dependency. Syllabus and text provided.

Minimum Qualifications:
Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience,
OR any associate degree AND six years of professional experience.

Desired Qualification:
  • Master's degree in counselling, social work, or equivalent behavioral health degree
  • Addiction counseling certification as a LAADC, CADCII, or equivalent
  • Five years' experience working with criminal justice clients in recovery
Salary placement is based on candidate's verified education and experience.

Assignments may include day and evening responsibilities. This position is represented by the San Jose-Evergreen Community College District Federation of Teachers, AFT 6157.
