Anticipated Hiring Range:
MTU/MTA, Grade 11 - Step 1 $1,338.50 bi-weekly (Salary according to Bargaining Unit Agreement)

General Summary of Position:
**This position is for First Shift and may require Second Shift or weekend work and is subject to the collective bargaining agreement with respect to shift assignment.****

Incumbents of positions in this series perform custodial, grounds keeping or maintenance tasks in a state educational institution. The basic purpose of this work is performing various manual tasks required for the routine maintenance of the buildings and grounds of an educational campus.

Plants, seeds, transplants, removes, prunes, trims, waters, sprays or fertilizes trees, shrubbery, grass, plants or flowers; participates in the propagation, growth and care of flowers, plant and shrubs; assists in planning and executing horticultural designs for grounds beautification. Use small hand tools such as pliers, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. Use hand-held power tools such as drills, chain saws, blowers, etc. Complete and turn in work orders for service in a timely manner.

Sweeps sidewalks, rakes and collects leaves, collects and hauls debris or rubbish, shovels snow, sands roadways or walkways; Loads and unloads trucks; unpacks and stores supplies and equipment in stockrooms, storerooms or warehouses and takes periodic inventories of supplies and equipment.

Operates power equipment such as, but not limited to, lawn mowers, weed whacker, edger, hedge trimmers, chain saws, and tractor/loaders as necessary. Performing routine turf management procedures such as aerification, topdressing, and over seeding. Irrigation monitoring, spreading sand, gravel, loam or asphalt; digging ditches or post-holes; setting or pulling posts; repairing guardrails or fences; patching concrete or asphalt surfaces; maintaining, erecting or repairing signs; cleaning or marking roadways for parking lots; erecting or dismantling snow fences; Use a variety of motorized equipment such as snow blowers, lawnmowers, etc.

Detect and report evidence of disease, insects, and pests affecting trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns. Troubleshoot, clean and maintain small equipment and engines both 2 and 4 stroke of lawn mowers, chainsaws, weed whackers, snow blowers and etc.

Performs various manual tasks in connection with snow removal and ice control work including shoveling snow using shovel and/or snow blower, spreading salt and sand and scraping/breaking ice in order to provide safe roadways and sidewalks for motorist and pedestrians.

Loads and unloads trucks; unpacks and stores supplies and equipment in stockrooms, storerooms or warehouses and takes periodic inventories of supplies and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
-Applicants must have at least one year of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in performing manual labor in connection with the general construction or Grounds maintenance work

-Knowledge of the methods followed in building custodial, maintenance, and groundskeeping work
-Knowledge of the types and uses of materials, tools and equipment used in building, maintenance, and groundskeeping work
-Knowledge of the terminology and standard abbreviations used in connection with groundskeeping
-Knowledge of the proper care and maintenance of equipment used in groundskeeping
-Knowledge of the types and uses of hand-held power tools such as chain saws, hedge trimmers, etc.
-Knowledge of the techniques followed in weed control
-Knowledge of the procedures followed in pruning and cutting trees

OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
-24-hour on-call during inclement weather and ability and willingness to be Essential Personnel
