Alfred State seeks an experienced Print Systems Technician, one who has a strong background in all areas of printing manufacturing. Alfred State has a state-of-the-art printing facility offering offset and digital printing to internal and external customers. Additionally, the department is a major contributor to SUNY's initiative for shared services.
The successful candidate will be a master multi-tasker who enjoys a fast-paced work environment and possess a passion for excellence, specifically in producing the highest quality work throughout the printing process. The ideal candidate will be an individual who always strives towards the goal of producing award-winning products in the most cost-effective manner possible.
This position reports to the Director of Printing and Mailing Services.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in processing work orders, small-format offset press operations, bindery operations, and digital print processes. The candidate must be able to function in a high-volume work environment as a team member as well as individually, follow departmental review and approval processes, and meet deadlines while providing high-quality printed products.
As a Print Systems Technician, this individual will operate a wide range of printing manufacturing equipment and software used to produce a variety of printed materials. This person will be cross trained on all processes and will share their industry knowledge by training co-workers in order to meet the goal of having employees cross trained in every area.
Successfully operate all equipment used in the manufacturing of printed products by Alfred State's Print and Mail Services.
Perform routine maintenance on equipment, monitor condition of equipment, and contact vendor for service when needed.
Share expertise with co-workers to ensure every staff member is knowledgeable about all manufacturing processes and equipment within Print and Mail Services.
Five years' experience in the printing or graphic arts industry working in all areas of the manufacturing process, with strong emphasis on small format presses, digital presses, and bindery operations. High school diploma required. Must be able to read and follow job jacket instructions and perform mathematical computations accurately to complete jobs. Experienced multi-tasker with the ability to deliver under tight deadlines.
- BS or BA in graphic communications, imaging science, printing technologies, or related field.
- Experience working with web-based submission of jobs.
- Experience working with imposition software for computer-to-plate output.
- Knowledge of the major graphic design applications for both Mac and PC platforms.
- Experience with graphic-related software such as:
- Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, etc
- PDF editing software
- Variable data software such as XmPie
- Postal mailing software
