Clark University’s Office of Alumni & Friends Engagement, part of the University Advancement team, seeks to fill the position of Associate Director, Alumni & Friends Engagement. Reporting to the Director of Alumni & Friends Engagement, the successful candidate will build long-term, meaningful relationships between Clark University and its alumni, parents/families and friends by consistently providing opportunities for the University to enrich the lives of its graduates and stakeholders. The Office of Alumni & Friends Engagement will achieve this not only through the programs and services it offers, but also through opportunities for our alumni, parents and friends to give back to the University. These opportunities include a variety of volunteer roles, from serving on class-based volunteer groups, to assisting with event engagement, fundraising, hosting internships and providing career mentoring to current students and young alumni. Duties and Responsibilities The Associate Director’s work will have an alumni, parents and friends engagement focus with a range of responsibilities including developing events and working with volunteers in primarily domestic cities with the largest concentrations of Clark constituents, in support of Clark University’s strategic objectives and institutional mission. The Associate Director will work with affinity groups among Clark’s alumni, parents and friends to build vibrant engagement opportunities to support Clark during its capital campaign. Working in collaboration with University Advancement and its team members, the Associate Director will help plan and manage events, particularly series events that aim to engage alumni, parents and friends in major cities (50%). In addition, the Associate Director will engage volunteers and help manage their work, including serving as a staff liaison and coordinating all volunteer work and meetings for Clark’s Undergraduate Parents Advisory Council and the Women’s 75th Anniversary Committee (40%). Additional volunteer engagement responsibilities will also be entailed, including partnering with teammates as it relates to volunteer engagement of the GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) Council, the University’s Alumni Association and Executive Board, and other volunteer groups (10%), as well as other duties as assigned. Qualifications The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years working in alumni engagement, donor relations and/or development. Previous event experience, particularly in an Advancement team, is strongly preferred, as well as work experience in Higher Education. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to the goals of a liberal arts education and to the importance of Clark’s relationship with its constituencies and prior volunteer management expertise. He/she should bring innovative ideas to engage our alumni and families, and be an energetic listener and ready traveler with the ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively. He/she must have exceptional organizational, motivational, and interpersonal skills. The Associate Director handles complex and often sensitive information with potentially wide impact on the University community and external audiences. Discretion, collaboration and excellent communications skills are essential for the successful candidate. Attention to detail is important as is considerable initiative and imagination for innovation. Some evening and weekend work required, as well as travel.
